There are only 2 types of person in this world. 1 who loves and adores ice-creams and the other ones, are freaking liars. Who doesn’t like ice creams! I was invited to Wall’s Scoop of Happiness workshop the other day and in this workshop, I get to learn how to create food art with the only and only Samantha Lee, a Malaysian Instagrammer who is popular for her food art.
Wall’s Selection’s branding message is all about celebrating family bonds and happiness. They set to deliver their message through this campaign called Wall’s Scoop of Happiness Campaign which it sole aim is to make family members spend more time with each other. In these contemporary times, it is a crucial message as most young parents are working outside to provide for the family and the young children did not get the much needed attention at times.
Wall’s put together a video that showcase recipes to produce a number of fairy tale inspired food art. It resonates with the children’s interest and also it can be easily executed by anyone with the right ingredients.
With that being presented to us, we are given an opportunity to try our own food art later on. Plenty of ingredients and condiments are provided for our perusal.
Of course, not forgetting the 5 new flavours for Wall’s Selection – Cookies ‘n’ Cream, Hershey’s Choco Almond Fudge, Strawberry Cheesecake, Fruit Salad and Double Dutch.
Before we can begin our food art, we are given a demonstration by the renowned Samantha Lee. Samantha explains her thought and design process in coming up with her food arts and her sole purpose of getting into this was to encourage her children to eat healthy. That’s a tip for new parents!
Samantha shows us her sketches of her art before making them. It is essential to have something drafted out first before getting into it. In a short amount of time, she presented her 3 creations. Ice-cream proves to be one of the most difficult ingredient Samantha had worked with. The ice-cream had to be presented nicely before it melted.
We were then put together in a team of 3 to create a food art on our own. I was never one to be extremely good with craft but I was bugged constantly by Caroline to come up with a Minnie Mouse food art which even she had no idea how should she go about it.
And to me, with little experience of the ingredients, if I were to conceptualise from sketches, it will take a long time before I can even get started. I did a quick scan through of all the ingredients available and then tries to piece them together in my head.
That is what I usually did for my designs and sometimes with a help of sketches as well. With my 2 helpers around, this is our final food art.
I felt I kinda screwed up the face feature but Caroline seems to be happy with this then it is all good I suppose. Luckily there is a pink polka dot cupcake wrapper and also some other ingredients around that I could play with. I tried to create the Disney’s castle as the background but with limited ingredients, I think this is the best that I can do.
That’s all for today! Check out Wall’s website and facebook page while you at it! If you are interested in food art, Wall’s is organising a contest that can win you a family trip to Disneyland! Details below!
